Shri Mataji's Marriage Anniversary was celebrated on April 8 at the Ashram in New Delhi. Actually Shri Mataji's Marriage Anniversary is on April 7, however, due to some personal functions at Shri Mataji's house, it was celebtrated a day later.

It was a beautiful evening with around hundred odd Yogis assembling at the Ashram which was aptly decorated with flowers. At around 10 p.m. when both Shri Mataji and Sir C.P. Srivastava came down to the ground floor of the Ashram (where the function was to be held) after a long meeting with the Home Minister of India.

The evening started with the vocal recital by Shri Jayteerth Mevundi, a very young (age 27) and upcoming vocalist of India whom the Delhi sahaja yogis had invited. Shri Mevundi hails from Dharwad in the state of Karnataka and his Guru is the direct disciple of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi who needs no introduction to music lovers.

Looking at his physical frame it never looked as if he could perform so well. Shri Mevundi was accompanied on the Harmonium by Ustad Mahmood Dholpuri who is one of the top Harmonium players in India. From the moment he took the first note, we felt as if a Ustad is singing. He began his performance with a Bada Khayal (begining with slow tempo later switching to a faster tempo) in Raag Darbari followed by, Raag Basant, a Marathi Abhang and finally a composition in Raag Bhairavi. The rendering went on for over 90 minutes.

Shri Mataji was so much delighted with his performance, that she immediately invited him for the Sahasrara Day Puja in Cabella. Shri Mataji commented that how come she did not hear him till now. So I guess the yogis would get to enjoy his music again at the Sahasrara Day puja.

After the music recital, the evening concluded with flowers being offered to Shri Mataji and Sir C.P. on this auspicious occassion by all the leaders present. The highlight being a huge bouquet of flowers which was offered on behalf of the Australian collective.

Regards,
Ram Nalgirkar, Nataraj Phani
