On the occasion of the puja celebrating Her eightieth birthday, Her Holiness Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi spoke to the Sahaja Yogis. While this report is quite complete, it is written from memory. Shri Mataji addresses the collectivity in Hindi at the outset. In English translation, She said: “My infinite blessings to all Sahaja Yogis. You have come in a huge gathering to celebrate My birthday. I do not know how to thank you. I am unable to understand how to express My gratitude to you.”
She continued, that so many have come a long way from within India and beyond, from far places. “By seeing so many in collectivity, My heart is filled. I really wonder why are you all doing this for Me? What have I done that you are doing so much for Me? Your heart is so large that encompasses so much of love for Me. You have come a long way to celebrate My birthday. I have no words to express My gratitude and no words to express what joy it gives Me.”
She changed over to English: “What I was telling them about is that the way you have come all the way to celebrate My birthday gives Me so much of joy.”
She continued and, with all humility, said, “I really do not know what I have done that you have come all the way.” She said that it was appreciating what has become the outcome of Her “humble work” that “ Sahaja Yoga has spread like fire.” People took all enthusiasm all over the world.
She confided that She could understand the very essence of speaking of Self Realization to people in a country like India, where they were spiritually aware. But, in countries where people are spiritually not awakened or ignorant of Sahaja Yoga, how could the things spread? “It is you,” She said, “have done it. You have fallen in the track of love and enlightenment.”
She said that we understand because we know what is spiritual understanding and can appreciate and enjoy the love. That itself means that we are capable of enjoying this spiritual enlightenment and love.
 On the subject of spiritual level, She again referred to “the way you are using this spiritual power is beyond understanding.” That is why people do not understand what is Sahaja Yoga.
She said, “I wonder how many of you have realized that whatever you have achieved is also great.” It is the climax of human development and growth. This will definitely change the world.
On the subject of the recent crisis of the war, She said, “I am talking to you at the time when the war on Iraq is on in a big way. I do not know what to say. But, by all your efforts, peace will soon be restored.”
She said that we do not want to have war, but we have to change the human being. This is a very big challenge. We have to get the idea of giving Self Realization to all. It is not just by giving lectures.
“ Please give all the awakening to all the human beings, as they are born at this time. You have to give Self Realization by meeting all of them. Everyone can do that.”
She affirmed that everyone can have ten to fifteen people and can change the entire world to a newer understanding. “Without any discretion of colour or nation, we all have to live like human beings. As long as we are not spiritual, it is all right. But when you become spiritual, everything changes.”
Further, She desired that today we should collectively pray together that Sahaja Yoga spread across the world. She said, “You have to promise that you will go all out to spread Sahaja Yoga and bring people from misleading lives.” She thus spoke, once this is achieved, it will be realized regarding our action and the works of Sahaja Yoga. Today it is the need of the hour and at the right time we are ready to do Sahaja Yoga and spread it all over, wherever one sees the necessity. “Of course it will work.”
She reminded us that “there is always an urge in human beings to rise and I bless you from My heart, bless you very much of spreading Sahaja Yoga. You have powers and you have to use them. That is one promise that you have to make on My birthday.”
She again continued in Hindi: “Today I spoke in English and I do not need to tell you that people are trying to seek their spiritual awakening.” She said that people are practicing rituals and rites to achieve and attend all heights in their spiritual awakening. However, we do not really require all this to give Self Realization through Sahaja Yoga. She said that we do not really require standing upright on our heads to attain these things like others do to attain their spirituality. I feel it should spread.” People should be awakened through Self Realization. “In India especially, you all should try. That’s why I bless you. I feel each one of you should give Self Realization to at least one hundred persons.”
On Self Realization, She further reminded us that in our country of India the simplest and the easiest task is to give Self Realization through Sahaja Yoga. “That’s why I desire that you must strive harder so that next year when you come, your attendance should become double here what you are now in number.”
Concluding, She expressed Her gratefulness in all humility and blessed the collective saying, “I thank you and am grateful to all of you for all your efforts, but, at the same time, I desire that each of you should at least give one hundred Self Realizations throughout the year.”
Blessing the collective, She compassionately said that “to whom this kind of language is not known, they also have been doing these acts. Like saints and hermits have worked so hard and so much only by being in India. So I expect that you owe greater responsibility in being in India and I bless you all from My heart and that you receive My infinite blessings (anant ashirvad) from My heart.
“ And I understand that, through these blessings, you awaken more and more people you come across. My blessings to you all.”
